Jonathan Bosworth
BSc Hons (Wits), MA Couns. Psych. (Wits)
Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychologist in Melville, Johannesburg
I am registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) in the category Counselling Psychologist (Independent Practice). My practice is registered with the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF).
During my undergraduate and Honours training at Wits University I volunteered as a peer counsellor at Wits' Counselling and Careers Development Unit (CCDU). I thereafter went on to complete my Master of Arts in Community-based Counselling Psychology (MACC) also at the University of the Witwatersrand. My practical training took place at Wits' Emthonjeni Centre as well as at Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital (formerly Coronation Hospital) and Helen Jospeh Hospital. I currently primarily work in private practice. I also do some work with the Johannesburg Parent and Child Counselling Centre (JPCCC) and Matimba (transgender youth organization).
I completed both my Honours and Masters research on transgender identities. I presented my Honours research at Gender DynamiX's Trans Health and Advocacy Conference and my Masters research at the International Congress of Psychology (ICP). I have a keen interest in sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristics (SOGIESC) from both clinical and activist perspectives and am proud to be an LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, etc.; and transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming, crossdressing, intersex, etc., ethical non-monogamy, polyamory, swinging, open relationship etc.) affirmative practitioner.
I also have strong interests in adolescence, identity and relationships (both with self and others). I am honoured to work with children, adolescents, parents, adults and couples. I enjoy working with a variety of issues and life challenges and find being a psychologist very rewarding.
