Because of the developmental tasks that adolescents are working through (identity and independence) I find it optimal to keep the therapy as the teenager's own private therapy space. I provide parents with an overview of what we are working towards but do not discuss the specific content of sessions nor meet with parents for separate sessions without the adolescent present.
